Middlethorpe Hall in York is delighted to welcome a new spa ritual with the launch of GAIA Skincare treatments at the hotel’s spa.
GAIA Skincare products are fully handcrafted in the UK. All products are free from synthetics including fragrances and colouring, as well as being chemical free. Along with 90% of products being certified vegan, and all product being cruelty free, naturally. The GAIA Skincare range features three collections made with their Awakening, Balancing and Calming blends. The brand is inspired by Gaia, the ancient Greek goddess known as mother nature.
GAIA Skincare treatments are all about nothing being rushed. In the treatment rooms, Awakening comes first. Notes of tangerine, grapefruit, and peppermint rise into the air, bright and effervescent. Shoulders lift. Breathing deepens. The outside world fades as the senses gently come alive again.
Then there is Balancing; a quiet harmony of lemon, ylang ylang, and palmarosa. This is where everything steadies. Thoughts soften, the mind finds its centre, and the body follows. It is the feeling of returning to oneself.
And finally, Calming. The deepest exhale. Lavender, chamomile, and orange blossom melt into jojoba oil, wrapping the skin and mindset in stillness. Muscles release, tension dissolves, and time seems to stretch.

Middlethorpe Hall is a historic 300-year old red brick and limestone house, influenced by Sir Christopher Wren. The hotel is set in 20 acres of gardens and parkland which come alive in spring.
Middlethorpe Hall offers 29 individually decorated bedrooms and suites, a two AA Rosette restaurant which is open to all for lunch on weekends and daily for dinner. The hotel also offers afternoon tea daily and these become even more popular in the spring and summer with the option to enjoy afternoon tea and drinks alfresco. The hotel’s spa is also open to both hotel guests and locals who book treatments or join the club. All this within under 10 minutes drive of the centre of York, or with the number 11 and 15 buses which operate from the city centre to Bishopthorpe Road.
The spa, located in several cottages a short walk from the main hotel, contains a large indoor swimming pool, spa bath, steam room, sauna, gymnasium and a Club Room where drinks and lighter meals are served. The Spa also has three treatment rooms with qualified therapists providing the latest treatments using GAIA skincare, Carol Joy London bespoke skincare and Mii and gel nail products. Everyone can book a range of spa treatments. Members have free access to the services of a Fitness Instructor and Aqua-fit sessions. Everyone is welcome to reserve a selection of spa treatments and/or full or half-day spa experiences. All hotel residents have complimentary access to the spa throughout their stays.
Middlethorpe Hall has been sympathetically restored by Historic House Hotels since 1980 and was donated to the National Trust in 2008. It is the ideal hotel to discover the uniqueness of the city of York and surrounding Yorkshire countryside.
