5. Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway – Experience the beauty of Snowdonia from over 40 miles of scenic railway.  The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway system crosses the length and breadth of Snowdonia, linking Caernarfon, Beddgelert, Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

6. RSPB Conwy – This reserve is a nature Reserve of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds situated on the east side of the Conwy estuary and is a must-see for all nature lovers.

9. Chirk Castle – Completed in 1310 during the reign of the conquering Edward 1 to subdue the last princes of Wales, Chirk Castle is built on an outcrop above the meeting point of the rivers Dee and Ceiriog.

10. Penrhyn Castle – A lovely drive along the North Wales coast will take you to Penrhyn Castle in just half an hour. 11. Plas Newydd – The ancestral home of the Marquess of Anglesey.  The house was redesigned by James Wyatt in the 18th-century, and the 1930s restyled interior is famous for its Rex Whistler association and contains his exquisite romantic mural and the largest exhibition of his works.

13. Caernarfon Castle – One of the most impressive of King Edward 1’s Welsh castles, and just a 35 minutes drive from Bodysgallen Hall. Caernarfon Castle was built on the previous site of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle, and before that a Roman fort. Its polygonal towers were a move away from round towers, and the Eagle Tower is the most impressive.

The Romans used local slate in their fortress at Segontium, Caernarfon. Slate is still quarried commercially here, and it is acknowledged as being the best in the world.
